AT POST— 2 minutes. Start good and slow. Won handily: second and third driving. MAURICE, running well in the going, took the lead at once and, making the pace fast, withstood a challenge from SUPERSEDE and held him safe in the final drive. SlPERSEDE moved up gamely on the outside after rounding the far turn and. coming on the inside in the stretch, finished gamely. RED SPIDER responded to hard riding and. coming through on the inside when entering the stretch, outfinished TIN HAT. The latter raced close up throughout, but tired badly in the final sixteenth. STUARTS DRAFT closed a gap. CONDE was always outrun. VIRMAR forced the pace from the start and. racing IRISH HOLIDAY into defeat, took the lead and held LEW BLACK safe in the final drive. LEW 151. ACK improved his pos;tion -lowly and swerved to the inside at the eighth post, then was taken to the outside again and finished fast. I.EICITE, under restraint from the start, passed tired horses in the final sixteenth. HUSH HOLIDAY set a fast early pace and had no mishaps. PEGGY M. was always outrun. SON O BATTLE, under restraint to the middle of the far turn, but in the deepest going, drew into a small lead when passing the eighth post and outfinished GENIE in the final drive. The latter was rushed into the lead after rounding the first turn, then came wide when entering the stretch and lost ground, but came again at the end. GERFALCON was under restraint back of the early leaders, but tired badly in the final drive. GORMOND came wide on the stretch turn and tired. ITINERANT tired after forcing the pace and taking the lead. BONVIEW ran well. THlNDERY quit badly.
