I Fifty Named for the Aintree and Forty-Nine for Woodbine — American Owners "Well , Represented. i TORONTO. Out.. April 24.— Judging by the quantity and clas of the entries for the Aintree and Woodbine Steeplechases, the two outstanding jumping events of the spring season at Woodbine Park, that end of the sport promises to be well up to standard this year. Entries for the Aintree Steeplechase total fifty, just one less than were named for that race last spring, while the Woodbine Steeplechase attracted forty-nine nominations, four more than were entered for the 1927 running. There are few steeplechase events on the continent that carry the value of these two races, each being at ,000 added, and they never fail to attract sufficient of the coun- trys leading jumpers to enable the inclusion of a steeplechase event daily at the Woodbine meetings. 1 The Sewiekley Stables nominations for both numbers include 1 the familiar Thorndale and the former flat racer Harrovian, winner of the Ontario Jockey Club Cup in 1925 and 1926. I Nichavo is another ex-flat racer, the name of which is found among the entries for both races, he being one of four entries named by . J. F. Byers. The Queen City Stables The Red Knight, winner of the two leading steeplechase events at the last fall meeting of the Ontario Jockey Club, is on the list for both the Aintree and the Woodbine Steeplechases. Following are the complete lists of entries for both features: | WOODBINE STEEPLECHASE For 4-year olds and over.
