w ENGLANDS RECORD PRIZES In Kngland last year the total amount given in stakes under Jockey Club rules — that la, for flat racing — was ,709,640, which was a record for that country. However, as half that would be provided by owners in forfeits and sweepstakes, it is not remarkable. There is not a flat race in England carrying more, than 7,500 added money. The previous greatest distribution was |3, 616,055. Scotland also made a record, with SC,085, against 53,805. On the other hand, the 19,835 distributed in Ireland last year was the lowest for many seasons, the highest being 65,175 in 1921.
