SIRE WHISK BROOM II. DEAD Noted Stallion Dies of Heart Trouble — Had Many Good Winners to His Credit, Including Whiskery. LEXINGTON, Ky., May 17.— Whisk Broom II., celebrated thoroughbred stallion, owned by Harry Payne Whitney, dropped dead of heart trouble while in the breeding paddock at the Whitney farm here this morning. Whisk Broom II. was twenty-one years old, by Broomstick — Audience, by Sir Dixon. He raced and was a stake winner both in England and America. In five seasons he raced only twenty-six times and won ten of his starts, being second in seven and third in one. He raced at a time when purses were small, yet he earned over 4,000. After racing for four seasons in England he came home and, as a six-year-old, won the Metropolitan, Brooklyn and Suburban Handicaps. He was the sire of Whiskery winner of the Kentucky Derby last year, Victorian winner of the Preak-ness Stakes this year, Whiskaway, Goshawk, Neda Cresta, Parader, Woodland, Klondyke, Initiate, Upset, John P. Grier, Gnome, Flags, Hedgefence, Spick and Span, Backbone, Daz-zler and numerous other good horses. ■ ♦
