JOHN OLONDON QUALIFIES SPECIAL CABLEGRAM. NEWMARKET, England. May 17.— The Payne Stakes, a one mile and a half fixture, which is known as a test for the Epsom Derby, was won here today by Mrs. James Arthurs colt John OLondon. In a driving finish he defeated Lord Roseberys Camelford by a head. Lady Ludlows Sleepy Lad was third, one length back. John OLondon, a son of Swynford— Picardel, has been held at 20 to 1 in the future books on the Derby. The betting was 3 to 1 against his winning the Payne Stakes today. There were seven starters.
