MORE RAIN AND MUD j » . Unfavorable Weather and Track , Conditions Mar Arlington Sport. ♦ — Sea Rip a Big Disappointment in Principal Offering, Finishing Behind Irish Pal. » ARLINGTON HEIGHTS. III.. June 6— Inclement weather, a difficult track and small fields were the order at Arlington Park this afternoon and served toward a reduced attendance, but one of much larger volume than on the preceding day. The seven-eighths handicap was the best race carded and it furnished an upset by the failure of Sea Rip, backed to the exclusion of the four other starters. The winner turned up in Irish Pal. which led for the entire race and beat home the extreme outsider. Dan Burnham. with Sea Pip in third place. The favorite made a game try to head the leader in the early stages but, wlien reaching the stretch, he began tiring steadily and swerved out. Car None and Buckeye Belle were tlie other starters. They figured prominently during the early running, but when the stretch was reached the trying going began telling and they readily gave way. Dan Burnhams showing was sparkling. At one stage he was seemingly hopelessly out of it. but, staying close to the inner rail and gaining steadily after going half a mile, he proved a seiious menace to the winner and had the distance been further he would have reversed the decision. The outer track was considerably firmer than the inner course. The mile race on the inner course was negotiated in 1:4?% and the mile and a sixteenth race, Ihe first run pn this track, found the winner doing the distance in 1 :5€%. ENTIIIES BELAYED. Because of the condition cf both tracks there was a big delay in seeming the entries for tomorrows racing. It v as late in the afternoon before the weven races were filled. H. P. Gardners Sixty, an outstanding favorite in the sixth race, was unlucky in failing to register a victory here. He was beaten by a narrow margin by Dreana Lee, which led for most of the race. Sixty was caught in the barrier when the start was effected and was ridden unnecessarily wide most of the way. particularly in the stretch turn, where he lost a good deal of ground. The early effort proved too much for him and he tired a tiifle at the end. Sandy Man. coming steadily from far back and saving much ground at the stretch turn, managed to wear down Short Price for third place. Pair Anita and Shasta Pine were never strong factors. J. C. McGills colors were carried to their initial victory over the track when Manzana led throughout the mile ami a sixteenth distance. The inner track was in use here ; it was the first race at this distance run on it. Twelve Sixty gave Manzana stern chase and Jasonette. an outsider, succeeded to third place. Minstrel Boy. a well-backed one, tiring at the end in the difficult going. The veteran C ; • 1 i ■ : t 3!:ic showed a decided liking for the going and. backed with confidence, never left the result in doubt. He stayed close up to the leaders In the early stages, sprinted fast at the stretch turn and. drawing away into tlie lead, won thereafter as his rider pleased from Complication. The latter had to be urged hard to dispose of Linger, which .had b?"ti the early leader, but tired in the stretch. The other starters were strung out for a considerable distance in the wake of the leading trio. SlfVST.V MI EASILY. The on? mile race, run on the inner track, proved an easy affair for Shasta Nut, which ruled second choice to Dr. Rankin. The latter was clearly at a loss on the course, for he began slowly and continued far In the wake of the others and never did show ability to get into his racing stride. Shasta Nut was bothered some In the early stages, but coming fast in the stretch, took the lead and outstayed Far Away, with Majeste landing in third place. Another disappointment for many of the players cam. in the third race, when Hound Up, of the Three Ds Stable, failed badly and did not succeed in getting a portion of the purse. The Aurora winner, Peggy Lee, was victress here. She showed the way for the entire distance and held Evelyn L. safe at the end. Evelyn L. moved into prominence in the first Quarter and thereafter held to second place. Christie Flanagan raced well fr m the start and outstayed the fast rush-. lng Frank 1. for third place. Hound Up was will up for three-eighths, but thereafter faded out of tin- picture. Letter Six had the call in the final race 1 Continued on twentieth page. MORE RAIN AND MUD Continued from first page.t and found the track exactly to his liking, for he was under restraint until the stretch, where he passed Into the lead to be an easy winner from Paula Shay, with Treasur; r coming from far back landing in third place. The early pacemakers Know-Me-Gnome and Huon Pine tired badly when pressed hard. Train r W. W. Taylor arrived this morning with a division of the Hal Price Headley stable from Churchill Downs. The list includes Hike Hall. Pig ,hief. Congo II., Sandy Lady, Minn, and the two-year-olds Country Boy, Paraphrase, Hot Spot and Bossie.
