Sanford dropped ,000 into the claim box and led away Mrs. J. Simpson Deans Alans Bay, winner of the last race Wednesday. Frank R. Wright of New York, one of the leading barrel stave manufacturers in this country, was a visitor at Aqueduct. He viewed the starts of several races as the guest of Mars Cassidy and later was the guest of Pete Coyne and John Groh for dinner at the Widener cottage. Silenus made his first start in the sixth race today following a let up of over a year. At Belmont Park last June Silenus bolted into the fence with jockey L. McAtee during the running of a race. McAtee was on the ailing list for many months following the fall. James Rowe, Jr., stated today that Chantey died at the Whitney farm in Kentucky and not at Red Bank, as previously reported. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Jennings were arrivals from California for their annual visit. Jockey George Field was suspended for two days for his foul riding in the fourth race in which his mount, Recreation, after finishing first, was disqualified for interfering with Candy Hog, which was awarded the purse. There were two claims in the first race Thursday. E. W. Price took Abington from J. S. Herkness and C. Buxton claimed Sea-bright from J. E. Madden. The price in each each instance was ,000. Mcintosh of Louisville performed an operation for wind affliction on Bucky Moore, a two-year-old owned by C. A. Bernhardt. McConnell and Walkers Master Ace was excused from the fourth race by the stewards, having suffered a knee injury. Jockey G. Matthews transferred his activity from Fairmount Park and accepted his first mount here on Lap in the third race. Not altogether satisfied that Toro is a better colt than Misstep, Mose Lowenstein, the latters trainer, is going to engage Misstep in another contest in which he will again meet Toro. The coming together of this pair of cracks will be in the mile and a half Latonia Derby, to be run Saturday, June 23. Trainer Lowenstein believes the increased distance will favor Misstep. The colt will leave here next Sunday afternoon. Willie Garner, who is now riding at Latonia, will have the mount on Misstep in the Latonia Derby. The Joliet Stables horses Hot Time and Samaron reached here Thursday morning from Latonia and rejoined the stable in charge of Tommy Doyle. LATONIA LATONIA, Ky., June 14. The two-year-old filly Poppy, owned by R. H. Anderson, has been retired from training and turned out at the Anderson farm. Lee Cooper, the Harold Stakes candidate of W. S. Dudley, this morning breezed five-eighths in 1 :08Vk over a muddy track as preparation for that stake. J. W. Parrishs Roy, a hopeful for the same fixture, stepped the same distance in 1 :07%. Mr. Parrishs Rolled Stocking, which will contest the Enquirer Handicap renewal Saturday, was breezed a mile in 1 :46 on the muddy track this morning. Royal Julian, W. H. Whitehouses winner of the Grainger Memorial Handicap, was sent the same distance in 1 :4 3%, handily, as his final hard preparation for the Saturday feature. John Hikes, an apprentice with the stable of Lon Jones, had his first mount during the afternoon. The horses Busy Day and Vendeuse will make their initial appearances under new colors Friday. - -ie former will race for N. F. Wilkins and the latter for C. S. Bell. R. H. Anderson, breeder and owner, accompanied by his brother, Dr. Anderson, came up from Georgetown, Ky., to remain for a few days. Accommodations have been set aside for P. Reuters Galahad, an intended starter in the Latonia Derby, which will be shipped from Fairmount Park next week. Leo J. Marks Fairmount Derby winner Misstep is expected from Arlington Park on Sunday or Monday. He will have his final preparation for the Latonia Derby over the local course. The Okah, owned by E. B. McLean and in charge of James Mooney, assistant to John F. Schorr, left tonight for Arlington Park, where he will be a starter in the American National Juvenile Stakes Saturday. E. Ambrose will go to that track Friday night to ride the colt in the stake. Following the close of the Latonia meeting J. Goode will ship his stable of twelve horses to Lincoln Fields. Next week he will send Mrs. M. Meiners good two-year-old filly Veneita M. to Fairmount Park to fill her engagement in the Illinois Stakes. W. II. Shelley, racing secretary for the meeting, also will be at Lincoln Pields prior to the opening. * _ FAIRMOUNT PARK COLLINSVILLE, 111., June 14. Mrs. W. J. Potters horses, including Brilliant, Polvo, Gad, Rodrigo, Master Sweep, Hayess Choice. Marguerite Willet and Kilby, were shipped from Fairmount Park to the I old Windsor track at Windsor, Ont., this morning. Jockey V. Moore, who is attached to the W. J. Potter stable, also went along to ride for that establishment. Ed Trotter wired the Fairmount Park management from Latonia Wednesday inquiring • for stall reservations for his stable of eight horses and Trotter was advised that his request could be taken care of and it is expected that he will ship to Fairmount Park.
