I • AMERICAN GRAND NATIONAL Our Greatest Steeplechase Will Have Value of Almost 0,- 000 This Fall. NEW YORK, N. Y., June 14. — The first renewal of the American Grand National Steeplechase as a 5,000 added money stake of three miles for four-year-olds and over, resulted in a brilliant contest at Belmont Tark last fall, with Jolly Roger, Fairmount, Madrigal II., Homestead, Laufjunge and No-siamas competing and Jolly Roger winning under the cherry and black of Mrs. Payne Whitney and earning 4,750. There was ,000 for Fairmount, which finished second, ,500 for Madrigal II., which brought up third, and ,000 for Homestead, fourth. The second revival, which will be a feature of next Septembers racing at the Westchester Associations course, should be better. The gross value should be close to 0,000 and the winners share should be more than 0,000. It is not that there has been a great increase in the number of nominations — sixty-nine, as against sixty-three — but there are better chasers this season than there were last and they are going splendidly. Among the nominations for the coming Grand National, Jolly Roger and Fairmount stand out and naturalfy. But there are also Bangle, which defeated the pair in the 0,000 Appleton Memorial some two weeks ago ; Skedaddle, which has just beaten Bangle and Rabel in the Meadowbrook ; Rabel, star of the powerful stable Robert A. Smith and "Specs" Crawford are handling for Jefferson Livingston ; and Gracie, Thomas Paine, Jingle, Press Gang, Wych Elm, Coolgardie, Nichavo, King Bird II., Ashburner. Clover-dale, Pink Star, Madrigal II., Ragweed, Flight Time. Kathleen Crosby, Storm King. King Solomon, Father Holt, The Sirdir II.. Eider, Extreme, Nosiamas, Rubigny, Damoi-seau II., Mendoza, Royal Charge, Nomad. Bay Sari, Ruler, Endless, Erne II., General Post, Ko Ko, Signal, Belphegor, Devil Kin, Liroux, Job, Warfain, Le Bey, Rip. Kremlin, Oiseau dOr, Bridge, Winoya, Flittula, Not Much, The Red Knight, Gun Boat, Fair Class, Rudolph, Thracian, Soundings, Thorndale, Mendoza II., Carryduff, Festoon, Homestead, Rock of Cashel, Canterbury. Lizard, Mac Carthy More, Lorenzo and Sandstorm. The Brook and Broad Hollow Steeplechase Handicaps, the former a 0,00 gallop of two miles and a half, the latter a ,500 affair of two miles, which closed on June 2 with the Grand National, attracted sixty-five and seventy-nine nominations respectively. Three-year-olds may participate in the Broad Hollow. Last fall the Brook drew seventy-one nominations, the Broad Hollow sixty-one. New nominators are Capt. F. E. Guest, an Englishman ; Col. K. R. Marshall and George W. Beardmore, Canadians ; Mrs. T. R. Queen, William du Pont, Anthony Escott, Allinson Storm, Frederick G. Hostetter, J. Fred Adams, Frank A. Bonsai, Jr., Frank M. Dick, Robert A. Smith and Mrs. J. F. Byers.
