DORIS suffered from crowding at the start and lacked racing room for the first quarter, but came ■With a rush when clear and. coming gamely through the Stretch, held MACHETE safe. The latter began slowly and came with a rush through the last eighth. SHASTA 1I.IM had no mishaps and had to be ridden hard near the end to outfinish MILDRED WOOD. SHORT PRICE, fairly close up from the stait, saved mm h ground on the last turn, and, racing into the lead in the stretch, held it gamely and outfinished TOD SLOAN. The latter rated wide on all the turns and finished gamely. SAN-UTAR came with a rush after saving ground on the stretch turn. BALL GEE closed a big gap in the stretch. TWENTY ONE SIXTY began tir:ng in the last eighth. DOI.I.Y SETH was ridden hard from the start and tired badly ia the last sixteenth. CEO. JORDAN began well and, showing fine speed, raced into a good lead at once and holding it gamely in the stretch, held LADY MAKIE safe. The latter, away in a tangle, was much used in racing into prominence and was tiring in the stretch. KING BASIL, away well, but outrun for the first quarter, came fast, but was thrown off stride when ROLLS ROYCK interfered with him sharply just liefore reaching the stretch and had to race wide, but finished gamely.
