PLANS RACELAND CAMPAIGN ♦ i JHose Goldblatt to Race Whitney Band at Kentucky Course. ♦ ■Tames Four of New York Sportsmans Horses for Raceland Derby — Pollj og Well Bred. • RACELAND, Ky., June 19. — Harry Tayne 1 [Whitney, owner of one of the best stables campaigning in the East, and Mose Goldblatt, who trains a band of Whitney thoroughbreds In the "West, will hold strong hands in the •.four slakes to be decided at the coming sixteen-day meeting at the beautiful Raceland course, July 4 to 21 if the stake nominations •may be used as a criterion. Trainer Goldblatt, recognized as one of the smartest conditioners of horses in the West, jand who always has his charges fit to race, Ihas made reservations for eighteen stalls for ie coming meeting, and has intimated that ho has not gone to all his trouble merely as a "compliment" to the Raceland management. He intends to be on the grounds ready for action the very first day. Golblatt has named four Whitney horses for • the ,500 ad led Raceland Derby, which will have its fifth running Saturday, July 14. These include John Peel, Pollywog, Royal Tennant and Sesqui. Tollywog is a son of Whisk Broom II. — roily Flinders and one of the best bred hor:;es in the Whitney establishment. He has not been raced excessively and may prove a factor in the race, provided he is in condition for the gruelling route of a and a quarter which he will be asked to traverse on the day of the Derby. Royal Pennant is a son of Pennant — Regina and is capable of winning his share of races on any mans race track. Afterglow, John Feel and Sesqui have been nominated for the Ashland Handicap, ,000 added, which will feature the sport on the afternoon of Saturday, July 7. Afterglow is a four-year-old son of Pennant — Afternoon and was under colors only three times last year. Sesqui, a three-year-old, won two races as a two-year-old and gives promise of developing into something better than an prdlnary three-year-old this year. Chicola is the only two-year-old which . Goldblatt will bring to Raceland for Mr. i Whitney. This one is a promising bay colt •by Chicle — Gadiola, and has been named for i many of the rich stakes throughout the West, exclusive of the Greenup course. Unfor-j tunately, Mr. Whitney did not see fit to send .the son of Chicle after the Irontonia Stakes, I which will be run on the closing day of the meeting, Saturday, July 21. As for Mr. Goldblatt, his band includes the two-year-old Golden West, by Wrack — Gold-ing, and the older campaigners Sir Peter, Marconi, Good Shepherd, Policeman Day and FYillery. Sir Peter, one of the best handicap horses in the country in his day, is not quite as good as he was two years ago, but is still [capable of taking care of himself when prop-! erly placed. He has been named for the independence Handicap, to be run on opening 1 day, July, 4, and for the Ashland Handicap. ! Old Marconi is a favorite everywhere he goes, and this good son of Omar Khayyam — Ha Delivrance has been nominated for [the Independence Handicap. .Marconi, despite his six years, is still as good as ever, as attested by his winter campaign at New ! Orleans when he defeated the best sprinters jat the Fair G rounds and Jefferson Park. He lis a tough horse up to a mile and a sixteenth and since coming to Kentucky has beaten !eome of the best that could be mustered against him. Good Shepherd and Policeman Day are good over a route and should take their share of races at this years meeting.
