UPSET IN STAKE RACE Lightning Jones Victorious in Idle Hour Stakes Close Finishes Predominate in inMajority Majority of Races on Final FinalProgram Program Record Meeting LEXINGTON Ky May 4 The renewal of the Idle Hour Stakes for masculine juveniles worth 3380 net to the winner the feature of todays program the final of the most successful meeting conducted by the Kentucky Association in the history of the track fur ¬ nished a mild surprise for the near record crowd that attended when C H Knebel kamps Lightning Jones ridden by appren ¬ tice Leo Jones for whom the gelding is named was returned an easy winner Lead ¬ ing throughout the son of Midway Mam ¬ mon won by a length and a half from Uncle Matt at the end The winner ran the dis ¬ tance over a good track in 55 Roll era Down finished third followed by Chariot and three others that included the erratic but highly fancied Uncle Luther which was prac ¬ tically left at the post postSo So far as contention was concerned the race hardly measured up to what was ex ¬ pected and this notwithstanding that Uncle Matt and Roll em Down fought it out to a necks difference for second place This pair and the winner always were in command of the situation the early running finding Roll em Down forcing the winners pace under pressure and losing ground steadily during final drive Roll em Down succumbed to Uncle Matt in the final stages Chariot which finished gamely was in close pursuit of Roll em Down at the finish but he only raced into prominence in the final stages and his belated speed was of no aviil aviilThe The race of Uncle Luther a favorite was one indicative of much ability but he began so far back of his rivals that iis high speed could not take him into a contending posi ¬ tion It was his third start and on each occasion he has begun poorly Today blink ¬ ers were added to his equipment but they failed to mend his way wayCART CART AGO WIXS AGAI2T AGAI2TR R E Leichleiters Cartago winner of the Camden Handicap on the opening day of the meeting and second to Broadside in the Ben Ali Handicap a week ago was the winner of the secondary attraction in the good time of l52Vi Racing under top weight of 115 pounds and ridden by apprentice Glenn White the colt won by a length over Broad ¬ side which led Helens Babe by six lengths for second secondThistle Thistle Ann the promising filly in the sta ¬ ble of George Collins graduated from the maiden ranks with the running of the second race for juvenile maidens when she won from Happy Lad Wingo and five others The winner displayed the most speed from the start and while she swerved repeatedly in the stretch in the final quarter drew away to win by five lengths Happy Lad was closest in pursuit of the winner after the first eighth and despite his greenness H Gray kept him going well enough to outstay Wingo WingoThe The riding tactics of Willie Pool paved the way for George McCrann to add another vic ¬ tory to his local score by taking the third race over one mile and a sixteenth from Thistle Coot which he crowded back an eighth from the finish Tamina was third followed by William Penn the frequent of ¬ fender which went down after being in ¬ stalled the favorite He won his previous race by ten lengths but on the occasion oi his initial start here when he ruled at short odds was badly defeated defeatedPOOL POOL HIDE HELPFUL HELPFULWillie Willie Pool took the winner into a short lead after reaching the stretch and Thistle Coot whose rider L Jones made his move at the same time drove Thistle Coot to the final eighth a short distance back and on the inside of the winner At the eighth post George McCrann was allowed o swerve to the inside and forcing back Thistle Coot gained an advantage which was not en ¬ dangered dangeredThe The most spectacular finish of the meet ¬ ing came out of the fourth race an allowance affair for threeyearolds in which eight started The finish found Willa Deep River Bessie Alix and Herrick so closely aligned that the official placing was required to deter mine the outcome the quartet being placed in the order named
