RAIN FOR OMAHAS OPENING Inaugural Days Sport Marred by Inclement Weather — Spirited Finish in Main Race. OMAHA, Nebr., May 31.— Short Price, carrying the colors of C. B. Irwin, staged a merry battle with Kit Carson in the Omaha Inaugural Claiming Purse, best race on the opening days card at Ak-Sar-Ben field and managed to emerge victorious by the narrowest of margins. The Dago was third in the field of seven. The race was a fine contest between two determined thoroughbreds and the winner did not race one bit better than Kit Carson, but he took the inner rail and that brought victory. The pair raced head and head for the last three-eighths and flashed by the winning line as if a team. Short Price was the favorite. The 1929 racing season here was ushered in under anything but favorable conditions. A steady rain, which started this morning, continued through the afternoon and the racing strip, while not sloppy, was slippery. The inclement weather no doubt affected the attendance, but nevertheless a crowd of good size turned out. It was the first ladies day of the meeting. Bert Seyburn had the honor of saddling the first winner of the meeting when Vagabond, a son of Volta, beat a rather shifty band of two-year-olds. Vagabond beat the others away from the barrier in a moving start and managed to outlast Easter Seth by inches. Windy Ross, the favorite, was third. Jockey Critchfield was up on the winner and saved ground all the way with his mount
