McEVELY showed the most speed and set the pace to the stretch, but when inclined to bear out was headed by SAM PASS, then came again in the final drive, outfinishiiig SAM PASS. The latter raced forwardly, forced the pace and took the load on the inside near the last eighth, but failed to withstand the winner at the end. STAR PLAY gained gradually while raring on the inside and finished gamely. WOOD RIVER raced well and held on well to the end. TOP KICK wus away in a tangle and never recovered. SERGEANT SETH, well ridden, raced close up on the inside to the first turn and, coming through Into the lead, won going away. ETHEL GALLIGER was foiced to race on the outside, going wide on the turns, but finished fast in the stretch. SPRING POET showed the most speed and set the pace to the final turn, but tired. HENRY SOMMERS gained gradually, finishing well. SENATOR FIDDLER closed a big gap. BLACK NAN showed early speed, but quit, as did COL. BOB. PARTAKE ran poorly. . HEAD COVER, well ridden and close up under restraint for the first five-eighths, took the lead quickly when called on and always held ATHENS safe. ATHENS was also saved to the stretch turn, then came fast, but could not menace the winner. THISTLE PRINCESS raced well, but tired after taking a brief lead, then held on fairly well to the end. RUTH LONG raced with the leaders to the stretch turn, soon overhauled KEEHAN and, taking a i lone lead, won as her rider pleased. KEEHAN took the lead after the start and set a fast pace, but t was no match for the winner in the stretch. PERJURY began fast and showed good speed "throughout, 1 easily outstaying the remainder. TEXAS LONGHORN gained ground rapidly on the inside in the stretch. PATSY LEWIS tired in the final drive. GRANITE DUST lacked rating room. THISTLE JEAN tired. Scratched— 36S37 Patti Louise, 102. VILLAGER raced close up throughout, challenged and took the lead entering the stretch, but tired and could not hold it. RUSSELL GARDNER also made his move in the final quarter, gained rapidly and finished close up. SALUTATION tired badly after setting the pace for the first three-quarters. NANI-HAWAII raced into a good lead and set the pace gamely to the stretch, but tired badly In the late stages and just lasted to win. THISTLE BOY raced far out of it for the first three-quarters, then closed a big gap on the outside and just missed wearing down the winner. HENGIST raced In close quarters on the inside, but gamely outstayed SIR MAURICE. The latter raced well and made a game finish. FORE STAR showed good speed in close pursuit of the leader to the stretch and tired In the final drive. BOTCH also tired badly.
