IRISH HORSE WINS DERBY Trigo, at Long Odds, Captures Worlds Famous Race — Walter Gay and Brinz Second, Third. LONDON, England, June 5.— An Irish-bred, owned and trained horse won the worlds famous Epsom Derby when Trigo, b" |Bland-ford — Athosi, the property of W. Biirett of Dublin, and at the long odds of 33 to 1, flashed across the finish line a length and a half ahead of Walter Gay, with Brienz, Hunters Moon, Engarde and Posterity following in the order named. The last mentioned is the property of an American, Mrs. C. Glorney, the only woman with a starter in the race. Trigo was trained by R. C. Dawson and ridden by J. Marshall, a young Epsom, lad, who is a pupil of trainer Stanley Wootton. W. Barnett, the owner of Trigo, which overturned all the advance dope to win the Derby, is an Irish breeder, who bred the Newbury Cup winner, Athford, brother to Trigo. He is reported to have refused an offer of 00,000 for the colt before the running of the 2,000 Guineas. It was said that Mr. Barnett and J. Rice of Bi lfast each bought one-eighth of a share Monday in the London Stock Exchange sweep for £500 about ?2,500 and won over £15-000, or 5,000 each.
