COLONEL GILMORE, showing the most speed from the start, maintained a fast pace and, responding to mild pressure after reaching the srtetch, increased his advantage and held it easily. SOUTHLAND BOY began sluggishly and raced far hack to the stretch, where he closed up fast while saving ground and outlasted A. B. BENSINGER in the final few strides. The latter, in closest pursuit of the pacemaker from the start, swerved out slightly in the stretch and held on fairly well. EFELDEE had no mishaps. SOIREE raced wide. The latter, always in closest pursuit, finished gamely, but could not menace the winner. JACK SPRATT, in close quarters in the early stages, was racing gamely in the final stages. COBY began slowly and lost much ground. PEACE BUD could not improve his position. CHARIOT suffered from a poor ride and was always far back. EIL-WEIR was pulled up after beginning poorly. ROYAL SON followed closest to the pacemaker under restraint to the stretch, where he quickly wore down HEDEMORA. then held on well, but was not good enough. HEDEMORA saved ground while making a fast pace and tired after reaching the final eighth. GEORGE McCRANN suffered interference in the first quarter and closed ground during the stretch. LATONIA Continued from third page. then failed to find room to got through on the inside of the leaders in the stretch and, failing to respond to his riders efforts to take him to the outside of the winner, finished under restraint. ILLEGITIMATE showed the most speed, saved ground on the turn and, after being headed, dropped back as if through, hut came again gamely near the end. RETORT bore in badly all the way, but rand well.
