THISTLE DOWN ATTRACTION Cleveland Derby to Have 15000 in Added Money Race Expected to Bring Best of Three ThreeYearOlds YearOlds to Ohio Course 100 to Start CLEVELAND Ohio May 10 That Thistle Down intends to reach out for the best there is in racing was evidenced yesterday when announcement was made that it would in ¬ augurate the Cleveland Derby with an added value of 15000 with a view of bringing all of the crack threeyearolds of the year into competition at the coming meeting meetingThe The entrance fee to the stake will be 25 and the starting fee 100 The second horse will receive 2000 the third 1000 and the fourth 500 The conditions have been drawn so as to make some weight allowances that will insure a good field for the race raceThe The officials for the meeting were also announced and embrace some of the best known men in the racing world Joseph A Murphy in addition to directing the meeting will serve as presiding steward Associated with him will be Herman P Conkling and William S Lougee Mr Conkling is at present serving in the stand at Pimlico and also serves as steward at Havre de Grace and Laurel under the control of the Mary ¬ land Racing Commission He also serves in the stand at Hawthorne and at the Fair Grounds at New Orleans Mr Conkling has had an experience of twenty years in the stand and is also in close touch with the prominent stables at present racing in Maryland Mr Lougee needs no introduc ¬ tion to the Cleveland public He has been prominently identified with harness racing here for many years and while this is his first experience with the runners he has a keen desire to serve with experienced men and become more familiar with this class of sport sportThe The placing judges will be Eugene Bury Charles McLennan and Sidney Brown Mr Bury will also act as racing secretary and has been prominently identified with racing in Canada and with various tracks in Illinois and Ohio He brings a long experience to his new position Charles McLennan belongs to the younger group of officials He is a son of Joe McLennan racing secretary of Arlington and Hawthorne at Chicago of the Fair Grounds at New Orleans and of many of the tracks in Maryland Charles McLen ¬ nan who will also act as clerk of the scales is at present at Aurora and consequently is closely in touch with the horsemen on the Illinois circuit This is Sidney Browns first experience in the stand but he has been employed for years by Daily Racing Form and has checked horses back of the winner for that publication publicationCharles Charles Wilson will be the paddock judge and timer Mr Wilson has served on most of the tracks in Ohio being at present em ¬ ployed at Beulah Park Columbus and is regarded as a competent man The patrol i judge will be Tom Day the mayor of Bed ¬ ford fordJudge Judge Murphy left Thursday for Balti ¬ more to witness the running oft the Preak ness at Pimlico and will return to the city Sunday to work on the final details of the meeting meetingThe The offices of the track at the Hollenden Hotel were flooded yesterday with appli ¬ cations for stall room from horsemen from every section of the country It is practically assured that the best class of horses ever assembled in Cleveland will be here for the meeting
