LORD VALE dashed to the front on the back stretch and opened up a good lead, but while not able to resist the winner, held on well. SPEEDY CHARLIE and HAPPY FELLOW were going gamely at the end. PEGGY J. was" in close quarters on the inside at the far turn, but came to the outside in the run home and finished fastest of all. JOHN BANE showed a fair effort. MUCKER could not keep up. HEHUKAI came from far back to loom up dangerously in the last quarter, and would have been closer but for meeting with interference from the winner near the end. GRAYDALE was always well up and held on gamely. SURE HILLS showed a fair effort. CAPTAIN GILBERT weakened. PATUXANT was never dangerous.
