ANOTHER CUT IN PURSES Agua Caliente Management Reduces Purses to 00 in Order to Carry on Meeting. AGUA CALIENTE, Mexico, Feb. 8. The management of the Agua Caliente Jockey Club again has found it necessary to cut the purses in order to carry on with their winter meeting. The twelfth issue of the program book, which made its appearance on Saturday, shows that 00 has been cut from each purse for the coming week and the policy likely will be carried on throughout the remaining days of the meeting. The majority of the races for the coming week will be for 00 purses. For some of the better class claiming races 00 will be hung up, while a few 00 purses will be given. The largest purse of the week is the Derby Trial Stakes next Sunday. This event will carry a value of ,500 added. The decision of the management to make another slash in the purses did not meet with the whole-hearted approval of the horsemen and several impromptu meetings were held Sunday. A notice suggesting a change in the claiming rule was posted in the secretarys office Sunday. Many horsemen are known to favor the open claiming rule which was tried out unsuccessfully below the border a few years ago.
