SALISBURY, an early factor, gained steadily entering the stretch and, racing TRAITOR into defeat, drew away in the last eighth and won under restraint. HAMILTON, under restraint and racing wide all the way, finished gamely when called upon and shook off TRAITOR in the last sixteenth. TRAITOR showed good speed, was used up racing CHIANTI into defeat, then tired badly. HIEOVER raced evenly. CLEAN PLAY raced poorly. STARBOARD LIGHT, crowded back going to the first turn, improved his position on the outside and was gaining when forced wide, but continued to close resolutely and wore down PARTISAN. The latter came through on the inside, saved much ground and, drawing away entering the strccth, gave way to the winner in the stretch. NEALON KAY took an easy lead leaving the back stretch, but bore out badly on the stretch turn, yet held TIGER PRINCE safe. The latter had no mishaps and quit after going about a mile. TANCRED began slowly, saved ground throughout, but could not get up. SKRIP shewed good early speed, then tired. OUTPOST could not get up. JAMISON, slow to find his stride, steadily improved his position on the outside in the last three-eighths and was going fastest of all at the finish. JACK COLLINS, under pressure all the way, faltered through the stretch, but continued gamely in the final drive. POP GAFFNEY had no mishaps. CLAREMONT raced on his own courage.
