DEFER OPENING TO SUNDAY Resumption of Agua Caliente Racing Delayed Because of Damaged Tijuana River Bridge. AGUA CALIENTE, Mexico, Feb. 19. The Agua Caliente Jockey Club management announced late Thursday night that racing would not be resumed until Sunday, February 21. The announcement was made after a conference with contractors working on the damaged Tijuana river bridge. It was found to be impossible to have the bridge, ready for automobile traffic before Saturday noon, and when James N. Crof ton, president of the Agua Caliente Jockey Club, was advised of this he ordered the extended postponement. The track was supposed to open today. It has been closed since the program last Sunday. Crews have been and will continue working on the bridge day and night. A pile-driver is steaming away and huge arc lights illuminate the scene at night. The bridge is buckled in several spots. Contractors hope to have it ready by Saturday noon, but Crofton did not wish to take another chance, so he made certain by announcing the reopening for Sunday. New entries will be taken Saturday morning for Sundays races, and the George Washington Handicap will headline the reopening card. Dr. Freeland, a Preakness winner and one of the outstanding stake candidates at Agua Caliente, was given top weight of 129 pounds in the ,500 added George Washington Handicap.
