JANE PACKARD, racing in her best form, began fast, drew clear on the stretch turn and held on stubbornly after being headed, outlasting WISE SELLER. The latter, away slowly, was much used in the first quarter, took the lead on the outside and tired under hard urging. ELKHART, in close quarters on the far turn, moved up mildly near the final eighth, then tired. MAGNA MATER, away fast, showed speed, saved ground and tired in the stretch. BILL LOONEY began fast, drew into an easy lead while restrained on the turn and, increasing his advantage after straightening out in the stretch, won in hand. TONY JOE, away slowly, raced wide and closed resolutely. LAUGHING BOY, -under early restraint, followed KING CHEROKEE wide on the stretch turn, but held on fairly well. J. GEORGE had no mishaps. KING CHEROKEE showed speed, bore out badly on the stretch turn and tired thereafter. UMA, away very slowly, was always far back. BOSTON WATERS lost much ground, but gained steadily and was racing resolutely at the end. CRUCIAL TEST showed speed from the start, then tired in the last Sixteenth. GO EASY saved ground all the way. FIGURISTE could not get up. MARION E. was placed outside the machine at the start. CONQUEST was away poorly and not persevered with. BURGOO, under strong pressure from the Istart, worked his way into the lead on the inside and, saving ground thereafter, held on fairly well after being headed and outlasted SUN THORN. The latter showed speed from the start, ran out badly on the stretch turn and closed fast in the final three-sixteenths. ELLEN D. was forced back on the turn. HIDDEN THOUGHTS raced well.
