LIGHT NUN, quickest to start, drew clear in the first eighth and, steadied in front on the turn, held on tenaciously when challenged and outlasted ESTIN. The latter began fast, but dropped out of it going out of the chute, moved up resolutely on the stretch turn and, closing gamely, was wearing down the winner in the final strides. TIMOUR, prominent early, met repeated minor interference, went to the inside in the last sixteenth, yet outlasted SOUR MASH. The latter, close up but racing wide all the way, tired slightly in the final drive. DEDICATE, closest to the leader for half a mile, tired when punished. MISS AVONDALE, close up early, lost ground on the stretch turn, but outlasted MERRY WINDSOR. The latter, used up racing NONANA into defeat, continued gamely and outlasted the latter. NONANA had no excuses. WINNIE C, in close quarters early, saved ground on the turn and closed a big gap. BLACK STOCKINGS raced evenly. DEERFIELD and HAYTIME were forced to pull up sharply on the turn out of the back stretch. The latter, a contender throughout, lost ground entering the stretch, but recovered fast and closed gamely. CLAREMONT saved ground on the turn and finished resolutely. ELLICE outbroke the others, but raced wide. BACCIOCCO began off stride and could not get up. THE HEATHEN had no excuses. Overweight Nardo, 3 pounds. FOURTH RACE-1 Mile. LADY BROADCAST began slowly from outside the machine, was outrun until entering the stretch, but finished resolutely. RIP VAN WINKLE, a factor all the way, tired in the stretch.
