DEATH TAKES J. W. SCHORR LOUISVILLE, Ky.. May 20.— John W. Schorr, wealthy retired brewer and father of John F. Schorr, former jockey and present trainer of the Three Ds Stock Farm Stable, died last night at his home in Memphis. For many years, Mr. Schorr raced one of the largest and most formidable stables in the country, prominent horses to carry his colors including the great Luke McLuke, double winner of the Kentucky Handicap; Star Charter, winner of the Clark Handicap; Leiber Karl, second to Plaudit in the Kentucky Derby; Modest, also a winner of the Kentucky Handicap; Leochares, winner of many stakes, and handicaps; Ed Crump, Cudgel and many others. Mr. Schorrs racing silks were seen at all the major tracks, east and west, and the stable had a tremendous following. He was the leading winning owner on the American turf in 1912 and 1914. As late reports received by his son were that his father was enjoying favorable health, word of his death came as a severe shock. Particulars were not given in messages received here. His son entrained this, morning for Memphis.
