COWIE WINS KINGS PLATE ♦ Second Consecutive Victory for Well-Known Canadian Turfman. ♦ Queensway Romps Away From Her Opponents in Dominions Famous Race — King OConnor Second. » TORONTO, Ont., May 21.— For the second consecutive year R. W. R. Cowie had the honor of having his silks carried to victory in the Kings Plate, Canadas historic old turf fixture. Queensway simply toyed with her opponents to score in the seventy-second renewal. The Seagram Stables King OConnor, making his initial start, raced into second place, beaten three lengths for the major spoils, though having a big advantage over W. H. Wrights Spey Crest, which raced into third place. It was just a quarter past four as the field started from the paddock to the track. As soon as the thoroughbreds made their appearance there was a rush for vantage points from which to view the running of the race. When the post was reached it I was with great difficulty that the field was lined up. Easter Dandy was the contributing factor in delaying the start for nearly ten minutes, and finally the Ridgewood Farm representative was placed outside the stalls. The start effected by Marshall Cassidy could not have been a better one, and Royal Guest, beginning from number two post position, was first away, closely followed by I Miss Gormley, and Riley hustled Easter Hattet to such good advantage that he was j showing the way as the first turn was j reached. Queensway was right there and soon wrested the lead from the Hatch colt. Leaving the back stretch Easter Hatter was still showing the way, but it was plainly seen that Queensway was ready to go to the front at the asking. Meanwhile Schaefer had gone to the whip on Spey Crest in an effort to improve his position.
