DOUBLE FOR WHITNEY SILKS ] Magnifico and New Sun Triumph at Thorncliffe Park — Large Attendance for Ladies Day. TORONTO, Ont., May 31.— The silks of ] Cornelius Vanderbilt Whitney were much in the limelight on the second day of the meeting at the Leaside course of the Thorncliffe Breeders and Racing Association. Magnifico, from that famed establishment, scored a clean cut victory when he took the measure of seven high class sprinters in the St. Thomas Handicap, run as the fourth race, i while earlier in the day New Sun proved J t best of eleven youngsters that started in the j Forest Kills Purse to make possible the first | doable of the Canadian season for the fa- I I mous Eton blue silks. I * | Royal Ruffin, racing for the Braedel- | ! bane Stable of Jouett Shouse, chairman of I I the Democratic National Committee, raced * into second place, following the winning gelding to the end of the trip, and Kakapo, | in the silks of R. S. Clark, racing coupled with Royal Ruffin, saved the short end of the purse without much trouble from H. G. | Bedwells recent purchase. Vacillate. Once clear, Magnifico came away to tri- | umph by three lengths in the fastest six y furlongs of the season, being timed in 1:12. ; Royal Ruffin staged a stout duel with his | running mate, Kakapo, to earn second by a head, while the latter retained a margin of , nearly three lengths over Vacillate. With the fair sex the guests of the man-agement and summerlike weather prevail- ing, an increase was noted in attendance figures, while the track made for fast time , during the running of the program.
