BELMONT STAKES WORKOUTS i Oscillator Displays Brilliant Effort Over Mile and One-Half Distance — Flag Pole Ready. NEW YORK, N. Y., May 31.— Bennett Creech had a pair of the W. R. Coe Belmont Stakes eligibles under saddle at Belmont " Park today and they were sent the full 1 mile and a half distance in a fashion to • suggest they will be sent to the post Saturday. ■ These were Osculator, which was a 1 good second to Boatswain in the running of the Withers last Saturday, and the filly Laughing Queen. Each showed to advantage and there should be no doubt of the i fitness of them for the long, hard test. Osculator finished the mile and a half in 2:35%. The filly was eased up at the end 1 of a mile and three furlongs in 2:22%. • Osculator, after running a first half in :52, ran his second in :51%, to reach the mile in J 1:43%. He went to the mile and a furlong » in 1:56 and the mile and a quarter in 2:09, i which meant a fifth quarter in :25%, a 1 remarkable showing. Then reaching the I mile and a half in 2:35% meant a final I quarter in :26%. This fellow has had considerable training ? and his hard race in the Withers evidently I did him no harm when he came back with 1 such a trial so soon after that contest. Flag Pole continues to be the most talked ■ of eligible for the Belmont in the light of f how he has been training for the big race, • but the Coe eligibles seem to be strong and it is admitted if Mad Pursuit happens to be in a running mood Saturday he will keep " the best of the eligibles exceedingly busy. Faireno, from William Woodwards Belair 1 Stud, and the Howe Stables Sansarica are g two others that are looked upon as certain starters, barring accidents.
