LATONIA STAKES CLOSING Nominations for the Golden Jubilee Derby and Six Other Important Fixtures Are Due Today. LATONIA, Ky., May 31— With the seven stakes for the thirty-one day spring meeting at Latonia closing tomorrow, indications point to a list of nominations far exceeding that of 1931. Although chief interest centers in the fiftieth or Golden Jubilee Derby, which, with an added value of 5,000, will have its decision over the Derby distance of a mile and one-half Saturday, July 2, there is unusual interest attached to the Latonia Oaks, the Independence, Quickstep and Enquirer Handicaps. The Independence Handicap, at one mile and one-eighth, will be the feature for Independence Day racing Monday, July 4, while the dates for the Oaks, Quickstep and Enquirer have not been set. Two-year-olds come into their own in the Clipsetta Stakes and the Cincinnati Trophy. The former, for fillies and at five and one-half furlongs, will be decided opening day, Saturday, June 25, while the Trophy engages colts and geldings at six furlongs. Nituma, which finished second to Hilena in the Debutante Stakes at Washington Park, is eligible for the Clipsetta, while nominations already received for the Trophy include the leading colts and geldings racing in the East and West. The Quickstep Handicap returns to its place on the program after a years lapse. The six furlongs sprint was not run last year, but there were so many requests for the dash that Col. Matt J. Winn, executive director of the Latonia Jockey Club, decided to give it a place on the attractive program. The Quickstep was first run in 1913 and was won by Johnson N. Camdens Helios, which, after his victories over Hawthorne, Forward and others as a two-year-old, was considered the best juvenile of 1912. a
