WINNER OF BELMONT STAKES Faireno Expected to Fill Engagement in Latonia Derby. Mile and a Half Distance of Race to Liking of the Woodward Eligible Few Works on Heavy Track. LATONIA, Ky., June 17. Faireno, the good son of Chatterton and Minerva, which carried the famous silks of William Woodward, owner of the great money winner, Gallant Fox, to victory in the 1932 renewal of the historic Belmont Stakes, will fill his engagement in the Golden Jubilee Latonia Derby. "Sunny" Jim Fitzsimmons, who guides the destinies of the Belair Stud, the nom de course under which the Woodward horses race, wired Russell Sweeney, resident manager of the Latonia Jockey Club, this morning for a condition book and stated that he planned on shipping Faireno and possibly several others here. The Woodward horses usually come to Latonia for their stake engagements, provided, of course, that the local fixtures do not conflict with those on their native heath. Faireno displayed his ability to go over the testing distance of one mile and one-half in the renewal of the Belmont Stakes, and, naturally, the twelve furlongs of the Latonia classic will be to his liking. With such good ones as the Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner, Burgoo King, and Tick On, Economic and On Post out of training, Faireno has opportunity of proving the leading three-year-old in summer and autumn racing. He is liberally nominated for all of the leading fixtures, and the Latonia classic will fit him handsomely for his Classic engagement. With a majority of the starters in the American Derby eligible for the Latonia race, Faireno will have an opportunity of meeting the victor of that important event at the local course. A heavy fog hung over the Latonia track this morning, and with the track muddy from the heavy rains late Thursday, there were few works from among the eligibles for the seven stakes to be decided during the thirty-one-day meeting starting Saturday, June 25.
