z BOSTWICK OUTRIDES GARNER Amateur Shows Skill in Piloting Own Horse to Victory. Blind Bowboy Outstays The Nut in Thrilling Drive at Aqueduct Negopoli Triumphs in Final Race. NEW YORK, N. Y., June 17. G. H. "Pete" Bostwick, who long since proved himself through the steeplechase field, gave an exhibition of flat riding at Aqueduct today that thrilled the crowd when he landed his four-year-old Blind Bowboy winner of the best race of the afternoon. Three started in the Hanover Handicap, a dash of seven-eighths, and in a thrilling finish the amateur outrode Mack Garner, who had the mount on The Nut, from the Warm Stable. The only other starter was Ormesby, from William Woodwards Belair Stud Stable. In a card made up of overnight events the Hanover Handicap was a bright spot, and the running made it the best event of the day. The three horses left on the same stride and Mr. Bostwick rushed Blind Bowboy along, but Malley went wide with Ormesby to take command. When Malley set a fast pace with Ormesby, Mr. Bostwick took hold of Blind Bowboy, but he held second place and was well before The Nut, which was galloping along strongly. Swinging into the stretch, Ormesby showed signs of tiring and there it was that Garner made his move with The Nut, electing to go outside the son of Sir Gallahad HI. He headed Blind Bowboy as he made this charge, but Mr. Bostwick had saved ground with his mount and, straightened out for the run home, came into contention with a rush. An eighth out Ormesby was through and, as he dropped back, The Nut looked a sure winner, but Mr. Bostwick was riding his colt hard on the inside. Then Garner went to the whip in a vain effort to save the day, while the amateur was content with a hand ride. He was Continued on second page. The Nut was bearing out slightly and easily beat Ormesby by four lengths for second place. The first race was .a five-eighths dash for juvenile fillies under claiming conditions. Mrs. H. Bennetts Our Sallie was the winner over John J. Robinsons Manya, which took second place in a close finish with John Manns Shady Girl and Mrs. E. F. Simms True Romance. Our Sallie, breaking well, was rushed along all the way by Catrone and at the end she was a length and a half . clear. But Manya was the victim of con-siderable interference and, with better luck, she might have been the winner, instead of finishing second. The second was a mile under claiming conditions and when Action, from the Anall Stable, had a run at the barrier after acting badly, he never was headed. He had something left at the end when he beat Mrs. A. Carfanos General A. by a length and a half, .and Seb was another five lengths away to easily save third from Joseph Carrolls Flying .Max. The only other starters were Portam and Benedictine.
