JAMESTOWNS FAST GALLOP Works Three -Quarters in 1:12 at Arlington,Park Thursday Morning. Marvelous Condition of Course Indicates Track Records Are in Danger Other Speed Displays. ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, 111., June 23. New records at Arlington Park are likely to be set during the thirty days of racing starting Monday, it was indicated this morning when George D. Wideners crack four-year-old Jamestown worked three-quarters of a mile in 1:12 in the easiest sort of fashion. The juvenile champion of 1930 proved conclusively by his performance that he is in fit condition for his first race of the season, which is scheduled to take place in the Arlington Inaugural Handicap Monday. Jamestown arrived at Arlington Tuesday from his owners farm near Philadelphia, where he has done his previous training this season, and his trial was the first at any race track this year. For several minutes before he went through his workout, he visited the Bahr starting machine so as to be familiar with it. The son of St. James and Mile. Dazie, which won six out of seven races as a two-year-old, including the Saratoga Special and Futurity, and captured the Withers last spring, was in a running mood and settled into his pace quickly. He moved the opening eighth in :11, and the first quarter in :22. He was timed in :34 for the three-eighths and the half in :46, after which j trainer A, J. Joyner held up his hand to the exercise boy to slow him down. Jamestown was timed in :59 for the five-eighths and 1:12 for the three-quarters. All the other trainers standing by were impressed by the workout and said so in no uncertain terms. Joyner expressed himself as being satisfied that Jamestown is ready for the races and announced that Linus Mc-Atee is expected to come from New York to guide the colt in his race Monday. The star eastern pilot has handled Jamestown in all his starts. Another noteworthy training effort was that of Stepenfetchit, Mrs. John Hay Whitneys candidate for the Classic. The colt that finished third in the Kentucky Derby went seven-eighths in 1:26 and was eased up a mile in 1:40. Mrs. John Hertz Pair-bypair also was asked for speed and was timed seven-eighths in 1:28 from the barrier. Both three-year-olds went through their workouts easily.
