WINS FIRST IN TWO YEARS Rain or Shine Gets Down in Front at Thistle Down Park. I ChiantI Scores His Third Victory of. Ohio Meeting Dimock Meets With Little Opposition in First. CLEVELAND, Ohio, Aug. 18. Racings fortune fell today on one horse that had met with favor in recent weeks and on another which had been deserted by Lady Luck through the seasons when Chianti won the third and Rain or Shine won the fourth here today. Chianti had won twice previously during this meeting while Rain or Shine had waited about two years for victory. Rain or Shine, owned by R. J. Moore, was favored by the heavy going and he surprised the larger than average crowd by taking command at the far turn and holding oh through the stretch run. One Long Hop had an early advantage but could not hold it when the outsider made his bid. On his retirement Flying Ambassador came up to challenge the leader but Rain or Shine held to his advantage of about a length. Donup made a strong finish and defeated Peace Dove for third honors. Following additional rain over night, the races were decided over a heavy track and the attendance was of average proportions. Taking command at once, Dimock never gave his supporters cause for worry during the running of the initial race. He led by a comfortable margin throughout. Doubtless came with her usual rush from the rear, easily disposing of the others. Corvine showed an impressive effort to beat the remainder home for third, after having been last to leave the barrier. Artistry lost much ground while on the stretch turn, when May went wide to secure better going. With the running of the second race came the closest finish of the day. Bay Rose barely lasted to secure the decision by the closest of margins, after leading most of the distance. Anthony Wayne came with a rush on the inside in the stretch and, finishing fastest of all, would have won in another stride. Absurdity was a factor throughout and was best of the others. Ben Keller saddled the winner of the third event in Chianti, which marked his third success of the meeting. The gelding wrested the lead from Alamae while rounding the far turn and held his opposition safe during the stretch test. Balthasar came strongly on the inside when called upon in the run home and outgamed Alamae for the second honors.
