GUSTO IN TRAVERS SARATOGA SPRINGS, N. Y., Aug. 18. From present indications a field of seven will face the barrier in the renewal of the Travers Midsummer Derby Saturday. This race will be remembered as the one that brought about the surprising defeat of Gallant Fox by the neglected Jim Dandy, and a few years previous the dismal failure of Reigh Count. Gusto, winner of the. American Derby and the Classic at Arlington Park, is a certain starter in the race, and he will shoulder 126 pounds. Trainer Hirsch has made this race his midsummer objective and has moved along steadily with his charge for the race. C. V. Whitneys Clotho and Mrs. John H. Whitneys Stepenfetchit are considered po- tential starters. Bob Smith has an eligible for the Brookmeade Stable in Monday, whilo Sunmelus, from the W. S. Kilmer stable, ia looked upon as another starter. W. R. Coes main reliance will be Masked Knight,, while War Hero is looked upon as the one to carry the silks of the Glen Riddle Stable.
