I HELEN BAB POPULAR WINNER Continues Her Consistent Racing in Main Event at Dade Park. Hildur Rock Makes Determined Bid and Beats Out Sun Gros Lady Jay Wins on Heavy Track. HENDERSON, Ky., Aug. 18. Helen Bab, the very useful juvenile daughter of Sun Flag and Bab, which has been a consistent winner for L. C. Young of Lexington, accounted for her fourth purse in eleven starts when she outstayed Hildur Rock in a thrilling drive, to carry off the major part of the purse in the Evansville Press Purse at Dade Park today. This was one of the more attractive races on a rather ordinary program, decided over a heavy, trying track, and the spectacular finish provided one of the real highlights of the pleasant afternoon. Back of Hildur Rock came Sun Gros and 1 four others and Sun Gros saved third for a rather goodly following by a wide margin over Black Nose. Hildur Rocks defeat marked his first before Dade Park patrons, he having accounted for each of his previous two engagements. From a fast start the winner, ridden by Willie Carroll, went to the front and, after making the early pace under clever rating, stood off the strong determined bid of Hildur Rock. Sun Gros came up with a rush entering the stretch, only to falter in the late stages. Helen Bab ruled favorite and her triumph was a popular one with the fine crowd that attended. Maiden three-year-olds were under colors in the introductory race, which engaged eight at a mile and resulted in a victory for Lady Jay, owned by W. Stueve and ridden by G. South. Plodding over the tough, trying course under light weight and in 1:46, which reflected the holding qualities of the racing strip, the winner won by a length from Gloria Diane. The latter failed in a creditable attempt to make every post a winning one and, after giving way to the winner, outstayed Glynhurst by a short margin for second. Surely, favorite, was next home and he went down without mishap. A. L. Ferguson, a well-known breeder, was an arrival from Georgetown, Ky. He will spend a few days here with his son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Ferguson. C. S. Stubbs sent three horses from Hawthorne and they were unloaded here this morning. Courtney Forsythe came down from Hawthorne to remain for the meeting and Roscoe Goose is expected tomorrow from Latonia. The horses Edward Haughton has here will be shipped to Lincoln Fields, then to Latonia. The stable is due at Lincoln Fields in time for the opening September 3. Prince Farthing, owned by Mrs. E. Carney, was reported greatly improved by trainer K. Ramsey. The horse unloaded from Thistle Down with a high temperature. Continued on second page. HELEN BAB POPULAR WINNER Continued from first page. Captain Joy registered for the seconi time in successive days when he .accounted for the second race, which brought out eight two-year-olds to race five-eighths. J. Heupel brought the winner from behind the pace and, after getting to the front in the closing sixteenth he drew out until at the end his advantage over Eva Jane was three-quarters of a length. The latter outstayed Vennie H, which weakened after showing the way to the final eighth, by two and one-half lengths for second, and Judge Urban was fourth. The well backed Cousin Nora was among those farther back. , G. South rode his second winner of the day when he guided L. J. Sandrocks Druggist to victory over Deemster, Jeu de Bar and three others in the fourth race. Deemster, one of the shortest priced choices, was ridden by the ineperienced J. Cartwright South brought the winner from last in the" final three-eighths, and he won by a length and one-half.
