RACING UNDER DIFFICULTIES : j Several Events at Dade Park Run in Course of Steady Rainfall. Demagogue, With Jake Heupel Up, Makes Strong Drive to Defeat Parade Step-Eva Jane Triumphs in the First. .. . . HENDERSON, Ky., Sept. 2. With the worst weather of the meeting prevailing, the j program at Dade Park this afternoon was carried out under trying conditions. Air j though the heavy rains of last night failed i to have any appreciable effect on the track, for it was slow for the running of the first race, a light drizzle commenced as the field . paraded for the third event and the rain ; continued for the running of the remaining races. The skies were cloudy during the morning hours and the threatening weather had its effect on the attendance. Despite the adverse conditions, the patrons were treated to some excellent racing and, though the fields in the seven events were small, they afforded some spirited racing, with many of the winners scoring by the closest of margins. This was particularly true in the running of the third race, that engaged a field of nine two-year-olds, at five and one-half furlongs. It was not until the final drive that Jake Heupel was able to get H. C. Regans Demagogue up for his initial triumph. The place went to Parade Step, with Black Nose beating Bob Dozer for third. The speedy Parade Step raced into a good lead soon after the start, with Black Nose in closest pursuit and Gun Strap showing the way to the others. They ran in this order until shortly after leaving the first turn, where Heupel sent the winner up alongside of Black Nose. Parade Step was still leading when the stretch was reached, but Heupel was urging the winner forward and, picking the outside and best going, he gradually wore down Parade Step to head him at the finish. Black Nose continued to be the best of the others, but was hard put to it to stall off the fast-closing Bob Dozer. Cousin Nora, which received the most support, was unable to reach the leaders and finished back in the pack. Eva Jane, a two-year-old daughter of At-well and Zante, carried the colors of Howard Oots to her maiden triumph over a field of seven other maidens of her sex and age in the five and one-half furlongs opening event. Waucela was second, with Lyda Belle third. Meade had the victor, which was a pronounced choice, in the van soon after the start and, after racing into a long lead, she was eased up at the end with a two-lengths margin over Waucela, which came from far back to best Lyda Belle for the place. Showing improvement over her previous effort, J. J. Flanigans Sister Electa proved much the best of seven other maiden fillies in the five and one-half furlongs second race. Worthys Pride raced to second place with Remuneration, after leading until the final drive, third. Trailing her field to the : stretch, Sister Electa came on the extreme outside of her field to wear down Worthys Pride and Remuneration in the last seventy ; yards. After establishing a good le.ad with Remuneration, Heupel kept the favorite on the inside and worst part of the track and ; this probably accounted for her defeat. The Oakland Farms. Coady scored a hallow victory in accounting for the fifth race that engaged a small field of five at one mile. Duelist, restrained off the pace, was ! second and Dis Dame third. The veteran 1 Eddie Martin sent the victor to. the front soon after the break and he came away to ; have a ten-length advantage at the wire. 1 In the run down the back stretch Heupel 1 had a good hold of Duelist and when he L called on him in the final quarter he failed to respond to his riders urging.
