Jockey R. demons had the j mount, which marked his second success of the day. Frank Nugents Bearcry and Prince Reno, from the Oster stable, divided 1 the minor portions of the purse. Bearcry showed the way to the stretch head, with Vagaries following. At this point Scala made her bid and. closing strongly on the outside, overhauled Bearcry in the , last sixteenth, to win drawing clear. Bear- ; cry was doing his best in the closing stages to save second from the fast finishing Prince j Reno, which worked his way up next to the . inner rail through the stretch. Vagaries tired at the end. Letalone had a rough trip 1 and could never get up. : Favorable conditions prevailed, and a good crowd was on hand to witness the sport. Displaying the most speed throughout, ; Hasty Polly took the measure of the limit ; band of sprinters in the initial dash. She was doing her best at the end, however, to , retain a half-length advantage over Red ; Vest, which was a forward factor from the start. Tiempo closed stoutly on the inside in the run home and outlasted the tiring ; Mac Moon for the minor award. Closing with a wonderful burst of speed ; through the stretch, Donna Linda overhauled the leaders during the final sixteenth of the second race and won going away. 1 After racing f orwardly throughout, Princess Peri barely saved second from the strongly finishing Ottie M. Sammy Tuck was a bang-up fourth after being, forced wide entering the stretch. Ada Wan and Bell Cap displayed much early speed, but tired when the final test came. Breaking better than usual, Silver Wave took command at once in the third race and, after disposing of Best Maifou while rounding the far turn, held her opposition safe all through the stretch. From a slow beginning, Delma Dunn closed much ground during the run home on the inside and outlasted Best Maifou for second. Water Lad, the favorite, failed to leave with the others when the start came and was pulled up. A rousing stretch struggle came with the running of the fourth event, in which La Compere, closing strongly next the inner rail, wore down Master Singer, the pacemaker, in the last few yards, to score by a head. Elkhart, coming fast from the rear, outgamed the tiring Chutney for third. King Commander acted badly at the post, unseated his rider and ran off riderless for a mile before the start.
