DAILY NEWS forced the pace from the start, disposed of CHIEFS TROUBADOUR near the end and tired in the last sixteenth. PAPYROGRAPH raced forwardly from the start on the outside of the leaders and held on well. GLORIA MARIS moved up steadily on the far turn, but tired in the stretch. OKAPI set a fast early pace, but tired in the stretch. EISENBERG tired badly at the end. ZAIDEE was in close quarters between the leaders entering the stretch and finished gamely. AFFIRMATIVE came through on the inside entering the stretch. YANCEY was gaining when bothered in the stretch. YOUNG JOHN was pinched back when the winner bore over at the eighth post. BOOCAP and ALCMAN came through on the inside. SURTEES had no mishaps.
