T., Sept. 21 For the final day of the long season of the Saratoga Association the best. program is offered with the rich Hopeful Stakes., the Saratoga Cup and the Saratoga Steeplechase Handicap all down for decision. Of these big specials the Hopeful is the most valu- able. It is a six and a half furlongs test for the juveniles and, with nine going to the post, it will have a value of approxi- mately 0,000. The Saratoga Cup will bring out half a dozen. This is at scale weights, over the mile and three-quarters distance, and it. is unfortunate that C. V. Whitneys Equipoise, owing to a recent indisposition is not of the company, although it was not expected that as many as six would perform. For the cross-country feature the field comprises five of the best that have been, shown through the Saratoga Association season. The Hopeful promises another meeting between W. R. Coes Ladysman, winner of the Arlington Futurity, the United States and the Grand Union Hotel Stakes, and William Woodwards Happy Gal. The daughter of Sir Gallahad HI. has to her credit the Juvenile, Flash and the Saratoga Special. In the last named race she took the measure of Ladysman, but the Coe colt had beaten her in the United States Hotel -Stakes and he wiped out the Saratoga Special defeat by whipping her again in the Grand Union. Under the conditions of the Hopeful, Ladysman takes tip 130 pounds, eight over his scale weight, and Happy Gal is at 127, which only gives her the regular filly allowance of three pounds. Besides Happy Gal, Fitzsimmons will send H. C. Phipps De Valera to the post under 117 pounds. J. H. Louchheim is represented by Sandy Bill, which has penalties that bring his weight to 125 pounds. Willis Sharpe Kilmer is represented by Sun Archer, under 122 pounds, and Sun Captor, which takes up 117 pounds. The only representative from the C. V. Whitney list of eligibles is The Darb, one that has shown some good trials. He is in under 117 pounds. The Quincy Stable, which on one occasion won the Hopeful with Trojan, has the maiden Repaid as its representative. He takes up 117 pounds. The remaining eligible named is Kerry Patch, which races for Lee Rosenberg. With Equipoise not named for the Saratoga Cup, most of the interest will center about A. C. Bostwicks Mate and Samuel D. Riddles War Hero, winner of the Travers. Both of these have shown brilliant trials for the long, gruelling gallop and they seem to be fit and ready. Mate will have Scuttle as a running companion. James Fitzsimmons, with Faireno not an eligible, promises to send both Blenheim and Dark Secret to the post. The remaining one of the company is Rocky News, from the Audley Farm Stable. Edward R. Bradleys Barometer is the only one of the highweights that had accepted in the Saratoga Steeplechase Handicap. He is in under 160 pounds. Joseph E. Widener is represented by Indigo, to carry 143 pounds. JMrs. John Hay Whitneys Spar is to take up 139 pounds. F. Ambrose Clark has Jack ODay his standardbearer, under 140 pounds, and Mrs. Clark is represented by Hamptonian, the lightweight of the party, with 137 pounds as his impost. There is every chance that each of these notable specials will produce good contests and, the last day of the Saratoga Associations season will be its most important. There is every indication that the going will be fast for this final program, although Saturday has usually brought its rainstorm all through the thirty days of sport.
