WHITNEY SUCCESSES CONTINUE Halcyon Adds Pierrepont Handicap to Long List of Victories. Exceptionally Large Crowd Braves the, Cold Weather to Witness Jamaica Races Robertson Scores Double. NEW YORK, N. Y., Oct. 12. The Piere-pont Handicap, at one mile and a furlong, featured the Columbus Day program at Jamaica this afternoon. A crowd of large proportions braved the cold, windy weather that prevailed and witnessed another triumph for the C. V. Whitney stable when Halcyon led home Pardee, from the Belair Stud Stable, while James Butlers Apprentice was third. Three started in here with the winner the one most in demand. The race completed a double for Robertson, who previously guided Cabezo home. The field caused no delay at the post and when the start came Robertson sent Halcyon into command with a rush. He opened up a safe lead and was then placed under restraint. Pardee was in the nearest pursuit, while Apprentice was in third place. The latter never proved a serious factor in the running and at no stage of the race made a threatening move. Halcyon drew away steadily on the far turn and when straightened out in the stretch was again taken in hand and at the end had speed in reserve. Pardee had no trouble in racing to second place. The victory added another ,700 to the Whitney coffers and Halcyon raced the distance in 1:52. Euryalus, with Tommy Malley in the saddle, had no trouble in leading home a band of maidens and winners of one race in the first offering of the day, in which Sarada was installed the popular choice. He raced disappointingly. Donate was second, with Orphean third. The latter was saddled by Earl Sande, making his debut as a trainer for this season. The start was a good one, and Malley sent Euryalus into command at once. Donate raced in nearest pursuit of the pace, while Sarada and Orphean were Japped on each other. Rounding the far turn, Sarada began to drop back, and from there on there was no doubt as to the ultimate outcome. Donate was placed under pressure in the stretch run and outlasted Orphean, which was under pressure for the greater part of the journey. A straggling start marred the second race and resulted in victory for Zorana. Corvine was second, with Satin Shoes third. The start found Vespa breaking in motion, and Lyons sent her into command at once. Mills brought Zorana up with a rush, and the two raced along lapped on each other, well In advance of the others. Turning for home Vespa began to falter, and then Zorana drew clear. Corvine, in the meantime, had worked her way up from a slow beginning, saved ground turning for home, and finished fast on the inside, while Satin Shoes had no trouble in disposing of the tired Vespa to be third. Cabezo, a recent claim of the B. B. Stable, returned part of his purchase price when he was winner of the Columbus Day Purse, the secondary feature of the afternoon. He showed the way to G. H. Bostwicks Uncanny, while Quel Jeu, from the Arden Farms, was third before Novelist, a stable-mate of the winner, and Happy Scot, racing for Joe Edwards. Novelist moved into command with a rush with Cabezo close after him and Quel Jeu in third place. Long attempted to go through on the inside near the half mile post but was blocked. On the turn Mills, on Novelist, went wide and -allowed Robertson to go through on the inside with Cabezo. In the meantime Uncanny gained resolutely and in a close finish accounted for second place. Long lodged a complaint of foul against the winner, which was not allowed. The second claim of foul lodged by jockey by jockey Long during the afternoon was disallowed by the stewards. R. L. Gerrys Chartres, which finished second to Mrs. R. L. Waters Fly On in the fifth race, was bumped by the winner entering the stretch. Long based his claim upon this interference, but the stewards, after short deliberafion, flashed the official signal. Charlie Chan, racing for J. P. White, was a distant third.
