FINAL DAY AT LONG BRANCH Adverse Weather Results in Poor Attendance for Last Day of Torontos Major Season. TORONTO, Ont, Oct. 12 The last days racing over a mile track for the Canadian season, came to a close with the running of todays program at Long Branch. Torealong, racing for G. Preece and ridden by the veteran Bill Obert, scored in the best offering of the day. This was a mile and seventy yards affair for claiming platers. A. Halli-wells Homelike was second, beaten a nose for major honors. The show position went to H. C. Ellis Bushman. At the start Master Stroke was quickest In stride and outran his opponents to the first turn. Obert permitted Torealong to settle into his best stride and did not hurry him in the early stages. The Preece plater caught his opponents gradually and was well up as the far turn was reached. Master Stroke had drawn away into a long lead and Homelike had moved into second place. Master Stroke had begun shortening strides, but was still in front straightening out in the stretch. Torealong was running gamely and, finding room on the inside, came determinedly and gained the victory in the final strides. Homelike, after having disposed of Master Stroke, was unable to withstand the winner. Mr. Gaiety was the favorite, but failed to cut any serious figure in the running, though making up some ground in the late stages. Chilly weather and the occasional shower made it anything but enjoyable. Despite the adverse conditions it was a good crowd that was on hand. Jockey F. Mann will leave Thursday for Wilberforce, Ont., on a hunting trip. G. McMacken is shipping Dark Celt to Maryland at the conclusion of the Canadian season.
