ANNA ADELIA TRIUMPHS Outstays Meloy in the Garfield Park Purse" at Cicero Track. iandttezidance Holding Up Remarkably 1. "Well at Sportsmans Park Good "Weather Favors Spectators. CICERO, 111., Oct. 20 The locally-owned Anna Adelia scored an impressive triumph in the Garfield Park Purse, fifth and feature race on todays program, which Brought .together some of the outstanding juveniles on the grounds. Meloy raced to second place a neck back and a length in advance of The Lone Star Stables Doramelia. Starter Brown lost no time in getting them away to a good start, and it was Flirting that got to the front but was soon displaced by Odd Star, with the winner inclose attendance. As they made the first turn Odd Star, which is noted for running out, went to ,the outside fence despite the efforts of McLaren to hold him to the inner rail. It was at this point that Anna Adelia took the Head and set a fast pace for the remainder "of the distance but gave way briefly to Doramelia. In the meantime Meloy worked his way into contention and was lucky getting through between horses, and as they straightened for the run home Doramelia propped back, and Meloy, continuing with his charge, was getting to the winner as they passed the judges, but Anna Adelia kept to her task and outfinished the Pea-body gelding. Flirting, of which much was expected, failed to be a serious contender under pressure. GOODLY ATTENDANCE. The attendance is holding up remarkably well, a capacity mid-week crowd being in attendance. The skies were clear, and a bright sun was shining throughout the afternoon. A chilly west wind could not dampen the spirits of the regulars as favorites fared .very well during the day. The track was fast. The maroon and khaki colors of Stuyve-isant Peabody were carried to a well earned victory in the first race when he was home in front of Eatemup, Bright Chestnut and seven other juveniles. Lefoy Cunningham was up on the winner and had him in front soon after the start. ,The victor was never seriously threatened .until the closing stages, when Eatemup staged a mild rally and in order to maintain his lead, was put to mild pressure. Bright Chestnut began slowly, but after reaching contention failed to continue with speed enough to wear down the leaders. Miss Sparkling, which ran a smashing race last time out, turned in a rather dull performance, failing to be a factor at any time during the running. OUTCRY BY SAFE MARGIN. The one mile and one-sixteenth second race brought out ten of the less fashionable distant performers and at the end Outcry had a margin of two lengths over Arcadian Flag and third fell to Fast Lift. The contributing factors to the victors conquest were the dull races of Riff Raff and the listless manner in which jockey Lloyd Geving handled the Lone Star Stables representative. It was quite a contrast to the performance that Riff Raff showed in his last outing when Southland Belle was out to the last ounce to get a nose decision over him. Today he was in close attendance, but Geving failed to display the energy that brought him so close to victory in his previous start. Fast Life cut out the early pace, but after three-quarters tired and gave way to the winner, which displaced him, and finally gave way to Arcadian Flag, which closed with a belated rush on the rail. , The French Rose annexed another purse for J. Bronnenberg when she made good in the third number. Under a capable ride by J. McLaren, who resumed riding after a brief illness, the winner was kept in a forward position under occasional urging and, after shaking off Miss Perfection, continued with good speed to finish with a length to the good, while Iskum had no trouble garnering the second award. Big Play, which finished third, turned in a sparkling performance, considering the tremendous loss of ground during the early runinng, when he bore out badly on the turns, and then closed with a belated rush to get up for third money. French Maid failed to improve her position, despite the hustling tactics of the veteran, W. Boganowski. Jockey D. Cox and O. L. Fosters Out Continued on twenty-second page ANNA ADELIA TRIUMPHS Continued from first page. Bound formed a winning combination in the fourth race, at seven-eighths, when he led for almost the entire distance. Sam Gorbets Port o Play was closest to the winner when they closed the engagement and third went to Dollar Princess. The victory was a popular one, as it marked the second consecutive success of the favorites, and the winner was loudly acclaimed when he returned to the scales. The alert Cox lost no time sending the son of Luke McLuke into the lead and it was Dollar Princess that forced him along at top speed. After traversing five of the seven-eighths, Dollar Princess showed signs of distress and began dropping back, while the victor sped along, and it was apparent as they turned for home that he had the race won. Port o Play, which had been outrun, was making up ground rapidly and closed with a rush to take place honors from the tiring Dollar Princess, which downed the highly regarded Jean Lafitte with the utmost ease. The latters performance was a disappointing one to his many followers.
