WISE DAUGHTER IMPRESSES J « Adds Bowie Kindergarten Stakes to 1 Her List of Turf Successes. • Defeats Piety by Two Lengths, With Snappy ] Story Third — Clotho Scores in Whitney Colors. BOWIE, Md., May 20.— The Everglade Stable, owned by Eurton and Ward, furnished I the winner of the Eowie Kindergarten i Stakes, which had its seventh renewal at t the Prince Georges course of the Southern i Maryland Jockey Club track here today when Wise Daughter, frequent winner dur- 1 ing the winter season at Hialeah Park and i more lately winner of the Pimlico Nursery, 1 was good enough to dominate the running j of the five furlongs dash to register in 1 rather easy fashion. Opposed by six others J of her age and ridden in expert style by J. Gilbert, the Everglade Stable performer, a strong choice, earned exactly ,660 when she covered the distance in 1:00 to lead home j Cornelius V. Whitneys swift-running Piety i by two lengths. Third was accounted for by H. P. Metcalfes chestnut colt Snappy Story when he held to third position for the . duration of the journey, and then followed in order Toytime, Lucky Light, Stimulaw j and Running Heel. In her fifth success in nine starts, Wise , Daughter, after a delay of several minutes • before a start could be effected, dashed t away with her usual brililant speed and in , the opening furlong held a three lengths , lead. Snappy Story attempted to go along , with her, but was soon displaced by the j Whitney filly and through the final stages | the two dominated the running. Piety made a strong effort when midway of the turn, but that effort was her most persistent bid, which Wise Daughter easily met. Snappy Story was beaten five lengths for second place and retained a one length margin over Toytime. The S. W. Labrot stable landed another purse when Rush Hour made a show of the sprinters he encountered in the fourth race called the Flash Purse and the supporting feature of the afternoon. In this, Rush Hour was opposed by five other performers whose recent performances were all worthy. The Labrot colt, however, was in a running mood to take command with the release of the barrier and he sped along in advance of his opponents to score by five lengths. Pairbypair and Con Amore, both of which were taken up by their riders following the break, earned second and third, respectively, while Kakapo led the two others. The talent took another setback, and Gilbert made it a double for the day when Cornelius Vanderbilt Whitneys Clotho took the measure of his six rivals in the Midway, the other secondary feature. This mile and seventy yards affray was the fifth offering of the day. Second money went to Labrots Springsteel. Mrs. John Hertz Watch Him, making his first start of the year, finished third, and Dr. J. Fred Adams Rehoboth fourth. Raymond Workman and Mecat were the winning combination in the six furlong opener. Second money went to Burnside. Miss Corinne finished third and War Eanner fourth. Rod Rack was the first of the twelve starters to leave the barrier. He had a lot of early foot, but succumbed without a struggle when Mecat and March Step went to him near the end of the back stretch. Halfway around the turn Workman called on Mecat for speed and the colt responded in easy fashion. Burnside was not in the early running, but worked his way along and closed fast. Bill Irvine added another score to the impressive record he has made this spring with the S. W. Labrot horses when Monel, a full sister, to the great mare Tred Avon, gained the verdict in the second, a three-quarters sprint for three-year-olds and over of the ,500 top and ,500 bottom variety. Because she was ridden by L. Balaski, an apprentice jockey, she got little backing, with the result that she paid 5.20 for .
