CANDY MAN, close to the leaders, showed ability in the footing and, taking command in the stretch was hard urged to the end. ATTIC BIRD raced PRINCE RUPERT into early defeat, saved ground where the footing was best and held on willingly. CORSINAX worked his way up on the outside from a slow start but did not threaten the first two. BY THE SEA did not threaten. HEAP GOOD was hard ridden and had .no mishaps. PRINCE RUPERT tired. CANTERBURY RAIN, well handled and rated close to WATCHLITE, took command at his leisure approaching the stretch and held sway thereafter, ALMOND worked his way up on the outside early cama through on the inside of WATCHLITE in the stretch and finished gamely. The latter ran away three-quarters before reaching the barrier and unseated his rider midway of the journey, but showed speed for three-eighths, then tired. OLD FASHIONED showed early speed. MAEANTIC, on the "outside all the way, was unable to reach the leaders. CANDY POT raced well. HAPPY WARRIOR had no mishaps. AUTHORITY lacked speed. MORE ANON and COMMON quit. CARYLDON, kept under pressure to overtake COTTON TIME, drew, into a clear lead approaching the stretch, but faltered suddenly in the late stages. SPANFLOW finished stoutly, although passing tiring horses. COTTON TIME, kept under mild urging early, flattened out when challensed. POPCORN was never a serious threat. VISIONARY HOUR quit.
