Gaillardia speedy son of Blink IL under the green and white colors of J D Mikel raced to an impressive victory in the Chicago Herald and Examiner Handicap which headed an attractive pro ¬ gram at Aurora Saturday One length and a half behind the winner came Dogmata an outsider to account for second while third went to Mrs Jess Burks Flying Cadet which maintained a three lengths advantage over the Shandon Farm Stables Minton which was in advance of Defier Southard Regardless and Altmark which finished in the order named namedThere There was a six minutes delay at the post due to the fractiousness of several of the starters but Wingfield got the field off in good alignment but the temperamental Alt mark gave evidence of his stubbornness when after beginning he pulled himself up and was eliminated Melvin Knight had the mount on the winner and lost no time sending him into a clear lead Dogmata was the one to force the pace but at no time was he capable of getting on even terms but the latter was good enough to outpace Flying Cadet which moved to third place when Defier dropped back backGaillardia Gaillardia continued to lead as thev ca into the stretch and Dogmata held second while Flying Cadet easily held Minton safe as they straightened for the run to the stand The leaders continued to dominate the race in which there was no change and they raced past the imaginary wire wireWhile While the weather bordered on threaten ¬ ing and the temperature took an apprecia ¬ ble rise during the afternoon the heavily laden clouds held their cargo The program was run in good order over a fast track which prevailed prevailedItEESTERS ItEESTERS FINE RIDE RIDEApprentice Apprentice Paul Keester turned in a bril ¬ liant riding performance to land Happy Lad a winner in the fourth and while the victor had a clear margin at the end it was the clever ride of the youngster that made it possible for him to down his rivals in the final stages Taking back as soon as the start was effected Keester elected to wait with the winner while Town Limit Abstain and Ruth Jelinek fought it out for the lead position and not until the horses left the halfmile post was the winner brought up on the inside finding an opening as they made the stretch turn turnKeester Keester elected to take his mount out and clear of any interference Showing improved speed under hard riding Happy Lad came to the fore and after a brief duel with Abstain drew away to win by a length and onehalf After giving way to the winner Abstain finally submitted to Ruth Jelinek which came fast in the final stages to obtain the second award by a nose The latter might have been best for when the start came she almost went to her knees but re ¬ covering quickly was sent into the conten ¬ tion and raced prominently throughout Fe laxe ruined his chances when he failed to break in alignment and was far out of it during the first quarter quarterSECOND SECOND FOR LE FLORE FLORELe Le Flore consistent performer in the sta ¬ ble of R M Andertan chalked up his second win of the meeting when he ac ¬ counted for the first race and vindicated the judgment of his admirers who backed him into favoritism Hot Shot garnered the second part of the purse while Lessing regarded lightly among the bettors finished five lengths in front of Sweet Chariot for third thirdHome Home Shore provided several thrilling in ¬ cidents when going to the post for the sec ¬ ond race First he unseated apprentice P Harden and ran away a half mile After being returned to the post he did it over again for the
