MARCH STEP BIG SURPRISE Pays 4790 for 2 in Winning Main Race at Kenilworth Saturday Defeats Quickly and Capitalist Under Well WellJudged Judged Bide by K Horvath Largest LargestCrowd Crowd of Meeting on Final Day WINDSOR Ont May 12 March Step which races for Miss L C White provided an upset at Kenilworth Park on closing day The Light Brigade gelding administered de ¬ feat to the best group of the afternoon and returned the liberal dividend of 4790 for the usual 2 ticket March Steps triumph came at the direct expense of J E Small mans even money choice Quickly a filly that has won her two most recent outings in Maryland Capitalist carrying the silks of the Detroit sportsman F M Alger Jr saved third by a clear margin over Tela TelaMarch March Step received a well judged ride from K Horvath who after taking the lead at the start snugged him along and al ¬ ways clear of his field until Capitalist drove to within a half length straightening out in the stretch Horvath had saved something to meet such a challenge and placing the Light Brigade gelding under punishment soon drew clear again againMeanwhile Meanwhile Quickly had never been far from the lead and Foden waited until the closing furlong before making his effort with the Smallman miss March Step still under brisk pressure in the closing sixteenth and despite Foden placing Quickly under a punishing drive was unable to make up any appreciable ground groundThe The final day of the Kenilworth meeting brought out the largest crowd of the meet ¬ ing approximately 3500 turning out to view the days sport Ideal weather conditions prevailed and well supported choices fared well throughout the day capturing three of the first four races racesMr Mr Gaiety now in his tenth year showed that he still is possessed of enough of his former class to make it interesting for the platers by taking the fifth race at one mile and seventy yards framed exclusively for homebreds Frigid Frosty carrying the pacemaking burden practically all the way raced into second place only surrendering the lead in the last twenty yards Miss Gormley equal choice with Carhan Queen was the one to be third thirdMr Mr Gaiety well handled by J Thomas and moving along the outside leaving the back stretch soon raced into contention When straightened out for the run to the finish he was sent up on the inside of Frigid Frosty and managed to gain a neck advan ¬ tage in the concluding strides
