MERGLER COMMITS SUICIDE BALTIMORE Md May 12 Horsemen and race followers were grieved to learn of the death of jockey Charles Mergler of Havre de Grace who formerly rode for A H Cosden and other wellknown racing sta ¬ bles in the East According to reports reaching here from Warrenton Virginia he committed suicide by shooting himself with a shotgun No motive could be ascertained for the act committed It was also learned that Mrs Mergler wife of the deceased was in a bad way from a blow received on the head by a oneinch pipe Jockeys offi ¬ cials and racing fans in general contributed to a fund that was being raised to help defray the expenses of burial of the former Jockey
