LADFIELD PROVES BEST Easily Outruns Band of Handicap Performers at Detroit Big Crowd Despite Extremely Hot Weather Favorites Justify Con ¬ fidence of Public DETROIT Mich June 28 Ladfield a consistent handicap star under the Mrs C R Crane colors turned in one of his best efforts in accounting for the third race at Detroit this afternoon afternoonA A small field of six of the handicap stars competed under claiming conditions and at the end of the threequarters the fiveyear old son of Ladkin which had the services of the veteran George Woolf was three lengths before C V Whitneys Salaam which beat Mrs A M Creechs Terrier for second De Valera carried F A Carreauds colors into fourth place with Up and Frost Bite completing the dash in the order named namedThe The sprint was the best of three races which engaged fields from the higher class claiming ranks and Ladfield provided the third straight success of those held in high ¬ est esteem esteemWith With the temperature registering 100 in the city and about that figure at the track the attendance was wonderful considering the uncomfortable weather conditions JOCKEY WOOLF ALERT ALERTAlthough Although Frost Bite and De Valera beat the winner away from the gate Woolf who was astride his second winner lost little time in having the victor in command Ter ¬ rier and De Valera offered strong threats in the run to the stretch but after a quarters of a length The Petter which was supported in the wagering was taken back repeatedly and was not put to pressure after reaching contention Full Tilt was allowed to drop out of it after making
