CARREAUD ENGAGES NOTTER Once Famous Jockey to Train Horses of Texas Turfman Reinstatement of Establishments Bacers Expected Kerry Patch Won Futu ¬ rity Under Rotters Care PAWTUCKET R I June 19 Speedy re ¬ instatement of the large and active string of thoroughbreds owned by F S Carreaud wealthy Texas sportsman was predicted here today when he disclosed that he had ob ¬ tained the services of Joe Hotter famous jockey of fifteen years ago and at present recognized as one of the most successful of the younger group of American trainers trainersNotter Notter will succeed F C Travis who has been suspended by the New York State Rac ¬ ing Commission as a result of a saliva test given Cantine Lass after the filly won a race recently in New York The commis ¬ sion is still investigating the case and in ¬ tends to question several minor stable em ¬ ployes ployesNotter Notter had an enviable record as a rider for the Whitneys but he reached the heights of stardom in the 1915 Kentucky Derby when he rode Regret to a great victory over Peb ¬ bles and Sharpshooter Regret still remains the only filly ever to win the Churchill Downs feature since its inception in 1875 Regrets purse 11450 was the largest up to that time timeNotter Notter has had much success as a trainer and one of hjs accomplishments was in pre ¬ paring Kerry Patch for a slashing victory in the Belmont Futurity in 1932 1932Carreauds Carreauds string will provide Notter with the biggest opportunity of his career The Texan has spent a great deal of money ac ¬ quiring fast and capable handicap perform ¬ ers to match the ability of his 1934 star Time Supply winner of the 25000 added Narragansett Special here Within the last few weeks Carreaud purchased an outstand ¬ ing distance horse in War Glory and one of the fastest sprinters racing today in Ajaccio His old campaigner Sea Fox is also ex ¬ pected to return to his brilliant form Others in the string include Guardian Brown Jack Cantine Lass Hastipast Satur nino and several promising twoyearolds among them the fleet fillies Society Editor Emigrante Retired and Supreme Maiden MaidenCarreaud Carreaud horses have been nominated for every one of the eight big stake events to be run during the first meeting which opened today
