KENTUCKY BLUES BEST Daring Ride by McTague Factor in Success of Filly Band Wagon Accounts for Support ¬ ing Attraction at Washington Park Bad Weather HOMEWOOD 111 June 19 Racing through a cold rain and over a tough mud ¬ dy track Rosedale Stables Blue Larkspur filly Kentucky Blues and Mrs A M Creechs useful veteran Band Wagon reg ¬ istered victories in the principal races on todays program at Washington Park As weather conditions were even worse than the day before when only a small crowd attended patronage slumped to a new low for the meeting yet enthusiasm ran high as the two mentioned performers drove to their triumphs in two of the best finishes of the wet disagreeable afternoon afternoonFive Five of her age and sex opposed the Rose dale miss over five furlongs in the Home vood Purse or fourth race and after a contest that bristled with contention for more than fourfifths of the distance she came through two lengths before J E Wide ners Seven Pines Miss Twinkle carrying the Shandon Farm colors finished third a neck farther back and a head before N Evans Dunlin Lady Sparta and Lotofus completed the field fieldMcTAGUES McTAGUES DARING RIDING RIDINGSome Some daring work on the part of Charles McTague who rode her helped the winner for a less courageous rider might have taken back when in such close quarters as McTague found himself on the turn Re ¬ fusing to surrender a position on the in ¬ side McTague kept the winner going and in near pursuit of the leading Sparta and runnerup Seven Pines In the stretch Sparta and Seven Pines went wide and rushing through Kentucky Blues was in front before the final furlong began As her winning margin indicates she came away thereafter winning with speed in re ¬ serve as Seven Pines had all she could do to keep going long enough to hold second from Miss Twinkle and Dunlin Lady Sparta having inaugurated a hasty retreat after the time Kentucky Blues took the lead leadThe The winner was a slight choice over Seven Pines with Sparta next nextBand Band Wagon found himself matched with five over the mile distance but performing in his best form was good enough to lead throughout After seven furlongs Prince Torch which had followed in closest at ¬ tendance from the middle of the turn where he regained second over the lightly imposted favorite Morning Mail was the gamest of the two but failed by a head in a valiant attempt to overtake the victor Morning Mail drove to the finish six lengths back and with as much of a margin over Spicson which labored badly in the going SHARE SADDLE HONORS HONORSCharles Charles Parvin had the mount on Band Wagon his second winner but he had to share saddle honors with Harry Albrecht AlbrechtThere There was a formful inauguration of the sport when Time Light Mrs P Kelleys High Time filly outsprinted an ordinary band of juveniles over five furlongs in the opening race She was a 3 to 2 choice and won easily with Grace C A second and Jerry H third Eight competed and the race was Grace C As first under colors She was a forward factor from the start and continued to move along steadily as the winner led the way by a wide margin in the final fivesixteenths A fast finish over the final furlong brought Jerry H into the picture He was last with only a furlong to go Johnny Bane and Bonnie Dream fell back fast after showing speed to the stretch stretchTomfoolery Tomfoolery and Well Built both at long odds raced home far in front of seven others in the second race at six furlongs Claremont one of the choices saved minor honors with Dark Hazard next nextTomfoolery Tomfoolery a 26 to 1 shot and ridden by H Albrecht achieved his goal with a fine bit of running through the stretch where Continued on fifteenth page KENTUCKY BLUES BEST Continued from first page he charged from next to last down the out ¬ side of the field in the last threesixteenths At the line of finish he was a length and onehalf before Well Built which in turn defeated Claremont by six lengths The fa ¬ vorite Frost Bite blew up after forcing Claremonts pace for fiveeighths fiveeighthsSpicates Spicates victory over L B Wilson Play away and five other threeyearolds in the claiming third race also at threequarters marked the second favorite score and he was among the more decisive winners L Balaski guiding the L M Severson racer past the finish three lengths before the run ¬ nerup L B Wilson Finishing fast Play away was within a neck of L B Wilson at the windup
