MUTCH BY A SAFE MARGIN » Carries Howe Stable Colors to Vic- 1 tory in Rams Horn Handicap. • Gillie Proves a Disappointment — Miss Dig- g nity and Deflate Score Double for J. P. Jones and S. Coucci. ♦ NEW YORK, N. Y., June 27.— Nautch, from the Howe Stable, was winner of the I l best offering of the Queens County Jockey Club at Aqueduct today when he scored in I j the six and a half furlongs of the Rams i Horn Handicap, which engaged horses of ■ class B in the graded handicaps. The son of Pompey made every post a winning one • i to win with something to spare, while Mrs. • C. Oliver Iselins Exhibit just nosed out Mrs. • ] William Zieglers Esposa for place. Well I , back of these followed W. Grahams Open | Range and the Greentree Stables Gillie, . i r the only other starters. 1 The seven-race program that had been i I prepared attracted another big crowd and 1 the weather conditions could hardly have i I been improved upon though a wind that t : blew over the course mitigated against fast t I time. In the Rams Horn Handicap Nautch, as , j is his custom, left the stalls running and I he was soon two lengths clear of the field I ; when Merritt took him slightly in hand and I ■ rated him along on the rail. Open Range , and Gillie were both away slowly but Lit-zenberger [ I sent Open Range after Nautch and soon had him in second place, while . Gillie was a bad last. Esposa was lapped j on Open Range and Exhibit was well back t of these. Before the stretch was reached Open J Range had moved away from Esposa but he was unable to run down Nautch, which was galloping smoothly in front by a couple 5 of lengths. Exhibit was making up ground ■ as he raced along on the rail, but Esposa was still holding on well while Gillie still 1 trailed well back of the company. A furlong out it was apparent that Nautch 1 was not to be caught and in the run home 6 he was increasing his lead until his winning I margin was three lengths. Open Range had I tired badly when called on, while Exhibit Ml. closed with a resolute rush and he just I | I saved the place by a nose from Esposa, j which finished in the middle of the course, i "Sonny Workman, after being out of the e saddle for a couple of days nursing an injured leg, had come back brilliantly when • in a powerful finish he landed Victor Emanuels • Free Again winner by inches over Mrs. • John Hay Whitneys Speech in the opening ? race. It was a five-furlong dash for juve- I j nile maiden fillies of the plater variety, and d j far back of the battling pair T. J. Beau-champs - Dixie Dora saved third from a Joan F. The steeplechase of the day was for hunters ■- over the two and a half mile course, and d it brought a good contest with amateur r riders performing. W. B. Streett rode the e top weight, Frank M. Goulds What Have e You, to victory over N. S. Luddingtons ■ Gaston, ridden by J. N. Theodore, and W. T- Burlingcocks Hermitage, ridden by L. E. 3- Stoddard. Jr., beat Thomas Leiters Sid, ridden l" by H. W. Frost, Jr., for third. There e were no other starters. After the finish Mr. Theodore made a frivolous 7~ claim of foul against Mr. Streett, t charging that the winner had crossed his is mount. There was no good reason for the e claim, and it was promptly disallowed. The third was a split of the first, being t a five-furlong dash for juvenile fillies, and d under claiming conditions. It saw the graduation *" of Dr. J. P. Jones Miss Dignity, with h Marshall Fields Ulalume racing to second J and H. C. Phipps Misled outfinishing Patsey Begone to take third. Ulalume was the one to show the way in n the early stages, and she was raced along s on the inner rail; but Miss Dignity, running i- down the middle of the course, was in n close pursuit of the daughter of Stimulus IS and, after rounding the turn of the course, e, Coucci took her to the front. At the end d Miss Dignity was holding the others perfectly r- safe to win by a length, and Ulalume ie had saved second by two and a half lengths is from Misled. A double was recorded for the J. P. ?. Jones silks and for Silvio Coucci when Deflate e- was winner of the fifth, a five-furlong r- dash for two-year-olds and the third d of the afternoon for that age division. The ie other score for Jones and Coucci was the victory of Miss Dignity in the third. In this running Blue Donna was the one ie to cut out the running and, until well inside i- the final sixteenth, she was still showing g the way. but Coucci timed his run nicely ly with Deflate and when called on she swept it by to be winner by two lengths. Blue Donna was tiring at the end, but saved second from m Dark Wizard by two lengths. The Bostwick k gelding made up some ground in the running, but hung badly when put to a drive. — — , *
