STRENUOUS, hustled to the front early, drew clear in the first eighth and, steadied under slight restraint, was never threatened. PRYOR, in nearest pursuit of the pace throughout, was placed under punishment near-ing the stretch and was unable to reach the winner. STRAIT JACKET, prominently placed all the way, was unable to improve his position. FAST MOVE closed a big gap. ENERGETIC BOY outbroke his company, but lacked speed. APPOMATTOX faltered when placed under pressure. CANTORIA raced far back all the way. ROYAL LINEAGE trailed throughout. ABSCONDER, hustled into contention in the opening eighth, moved up boldly, disposed of SHYNO and held GAY EDWARD safe under hard riding. The latter, away slowly, worked his way up steadily and closed with eood energy. BARNSLEY, away fast, lacked speed to hold his opposition and dropped back early, responded gamelv to urcing in the stretch and closed a big cap. ABBOTSFORD closed stoutly. SHYNO quit in the last quarter. CARELESS KNIGHT raced evenly. LIGHT WEIGHT was shuffled back after rounding the far turn. LEANA G. moved up on the inside at the stretch turn, but was unable to make up ground. JOHN WERRING had good speed, but quit badly in the closing drive. JOHNS BIRTHDAY was unable to reach the leaders. YAP moved up fast rounding the far turn, but was unable to improve her position through the stretch. DOORKEEPER was unable to reach the leaders. FRIAR MARK, restrained off the pace, came through on the inside in the stretch and closed with good energy. RAYCART, restrained early,.. . moved up stoutly leaving the back stretch and, placed under punishment, weakened slightly in the last cnzhth.
